چکیده
THE TOMATO (Lycopersicon esculentum) is a New World plant, originally found in Peru and carried back to Spain from whence it quickly spread to Italy (pommidoro) and France, where it was known as the pomme d'amour and thought to have aphrodisiac properties (this is the first recorded confusion between the placebo effect and the tomato effectdescribed herein). By 1560, the tomato was becoming a staple of the continental European diet. Of interest is that while this exotic fruit from South America (along with other novel products such as potatoes, corn, beans, cocoa, and tobacco) was revolutionizing European eating habits, at the same time it was ignored or actively shunned in North America. During the 18th century, tomatoes were not even cultivated in North America. Not until the 1800s did North Americans accept the tomato as edible; commercial cultivation of tomatoes was rare until the 20th century, although in the past eight decades the tomato has grown to become our largest commercial crop. The reason tomatoes were not accepted until relatively recently in North America is simple: they were poisonous. Everyone knew they were poisonous, at least everyone in North

The relative efficacy of bona fide psychotherapies for post-traumatic stress disorder: a meta-analytical evaluation of randomized controlled trials
BACKGROUND In the treatment of PTSD, meta-analyses suggest comparable efficacy of cognitive behavioural therapies and various trauma focused treatments, but results for other treatments are inconsistent. One meta-analysis found no differences for bona fide therapies, but was critizised for overgeneralization and a biased study sample and relied on an omnibus test of overall effect size heteroge...
متن کاملClinical efficacy of local injection therapies for lateral epicondylitis: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
Background: We aimed to compare the efficacy of local injection therapies for lateral epicondylitis in a Bayesian framework. Methods: We searched the Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest, for randomized controlled trials published from inception to February 2021 in any languages. The injection therapies included corticosteroids (C...
متن کاملAn In Vitro Assay to Evaluate the Immunomodulatory Effects of Unrestricted Somatic Stem Cells
Background: Unrestricted somatic stem cells (USSC) are cord blood stem cells that have been considered as candidates for the regulation of immune responses. Therefore, potential exists for their use in the suppression of immune response after transplantation surgery. Objective: The aim of this study was evaluation of the effect of USSC on mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) as a model for graft rej...
متن کاملTreatment of Phenolic Wastewaters by a Domestic Low-Pressure Reverse Osmosis System
In this paper, the removal of phenol by using aqueous solution in a low pressure reverse osmosis membrane was investigated. The effect of feed pressure, feed concentration, feed flow rate and feed pH on phenol rejection was investigated. The results showed that feed pH is the most affective parameter on the phenol rejection. Rejection of phenol increased with increasing pH from 2 to 10 under th...
متن کاملBeneficial effect of titanium on plant growth, photosynthesis and nutrient trait of tomato cv. Foria
ABSTRACT- Titanium is a beneficial element for plant since its promotive effect on plant metabolism has been well documented. However, the physiological role of this trace element in tomato is not clear. This experiment was conducted as a complete randomized design to study two concentrations of titanium (1 and 2 mg/L Ti) and 0 as control on physiological and nutrient properties of tomato cv. F...
